When Frank arrived, we all chanted GO, FRANK, GO ! And he walked the long block, shaking hands and greeting all the sign holders. We planned to greet Carol Shea with the same GO, FRANK chant when she arrived, but she sneaked in the back way to avoid all of our signs and enthusiasm. Actually, she did have 3 sign holders. They were parked next to my little Prizm (with its Tea Party sign on the trunk). Their license plate read New York State. Long commute.

The Unity Breakfast was a great transition from primaries to general election .. leaving no time to focus on “dust ups” within the “conservative family” but moving forward with new energy to the slay the Big Gov and Endless Spending
dragons on the left.

Governor Sununu is an awesome party leader. We are lucky to have him. He had just the right words (and humor) for all the candidates.

Great to see Molly Smith of Hooksett (State Rep. candidate with David Hess, Frank Kotowski, and Todd Smith) asked to lead the group in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Great to see Ovide Lamontagne be a conservative first and a candidate second as he recapped the issues, introduced Kelly Ayotte, and gave his support to the lady to whom he had lost the primary battle only an hour or two ago… and only by a whisker or two. It’s called character and principle in my book.

We were also reminded that Richard Nixon was WRONG when he said to campaign to the right in the primaries, and move to the center in the general election. NOT now. NOT this election.

This is a turning point in the history of our nation. Fasten your seat belts and prepare to get out of your comfort zone. See you on the campaign trail!

This was recently distributed by the Cornerstone Action Newsletter. You can find more about their organizations at www.nhcornerstone.org.

STOP LYNCH AND THE LEGISLATURE’S ATTEMPTED THEFT OF PRIVATE PROPERTY!

Even though the New Hampshire Supreme Court has ruled that Governor Lynch and the Democratic Leadership’s raid of the JUA monies last session amounted to theft of private property (that of the doctors, nurses, hospital’s, etc.), it is not stopping a small group of legislators (on the Joint Rules Committtee) from RE-WRITING the rules so they can justify still taking the money!! This of course is all in an effort to feed their insatiable appetite for more spending as they try to close a whopping budget deficit!

What is so very dangerous about the Joint Rules Committee attempting to do is that the justification they are using to do so could apply to ANY private property funds. Consider a recent op-ed penned by Sens. D’Allesandro and Reynolds: In it, they argue that since government is “in the business of serving the public good,” then isn’t it proper to “reallocate the money for the very same public good?” Yes, they are saying that DESPITE the NH Supreme Court telling them that they are not entitled to this money because it is private property, they are going to do so anyway because they know better, or in their words, they are “serving the public good.”

So what’s next? Non-profit accounts like Cornerstone? Private Trusts? Virtually everything can be seen as being on the table.

At the very least, this issue is one that should be debated in full day-light among the ENTIRE legislature, and not be controlled and the process circumvented by one committee alone that has final say.

The time to act is NOW. Here’s what you can do:

1. ATTEND the Joint Rules Committee hearing this Friday, at noon, in Rm. 306 of the LOB. Come to voice your displeasure about these rules being changed.

2. SEND AN EMAIL to the following legislators respectfully urging them to vote AGINAST any change to the rules that would allow them to raid this private property once again: kathleen.sgambati@leg.state.nh.us, jacalyn.cilley@leg.state.nh.us, betsi.devries@leg.state.nh.us, Amanda.Merrill@leg.state.nh.us, MFC@leg.state.nh.us, Matthew.Houde@leg.state.nh.us, maurice.pilotte@leg.state.nh.us, blpatten@hotmail.com, reppbs@ttlc.net, sgottling@comcast.net, kathleen.taylor@leg.state.nh.us, caseycorps@aol.com, david03257@yahoo.com, tara.eric@gmail.com

Remember, this is only happening because of the massive spending hikes over the last few years. It is time to tell them “NO MORE” and protect our private property rights!

****************
A BIG thank you to everyone who made phone calls into the Senate Offices of both Senator Gregg and Collins yesterday – the attempt to repeal Don’t Ask Don’t Tell along with the attempt to enact the sweeping DREAM Act which would allow a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants was defeated, 56-43! Cornerstone Action will keep you informed when it appears this issue may come up again!

ALERT!! ALERT!!
SEN. HASSAN INTRODUCES AMENDMENT FORCING NON-PROFITS AND OTHER CORPORATIONS TO DISCLOSE DONORS FOR ANY KIND OF POLITICAL/ISSUE ADVOCACY, REQUIRES CERTIFICATION FROM SECRETARY OF STATE’S OFFICE FOR SUCH ACTIVITY, AND REQUIRES DETERMINATION OF MAX. EXPENDITURES!!!

MORE… AMENDMENT LANGUAGE DRAFTED BY FORMER HEAD OF NH DEMOCRATIC PARTY AND CURRENT LEGAL COUNSEL, KATHY SULLIVAN…

In what can only be described as one of the most outrageous attacks on political free speech, Senator Maggie Hassan has introduced an amendment to HB1459 which is designed specifically to target groups such as Cornerstone and its national partners, by not only making them disclose their donors, but further, making them take a vote of their Board or trustees to do such advocacy, getting the vote certified by the Secretary of State’s Office, disclosing to the Secretary of State that they plan to such advocacy, and makes the organization disclose a maximum amount they plan to spend!!

Again, this not only includes political activity, but ALSO includes issue advocacy such as the recent ads done on Governor Lynch’s record by the National Organization for Marriage. The fact of the matter is that mandating the disclosure of donors by non-profit organizations which do issue advocacy is blatantly UNCONSTITUTIONAL!

It appears that Governor Lynch did not like the fact that the tables were being turned on him when the National Organization for Marriage criticized his record – and now he and the legislative leadership are attempting to change the rules because it no longer works for them!

ALL NON-PROFITS, CORPORATIONS, LLC’S AND PARTERSHIPS WILL BE BOUND BY THESE NEW RULES UNDER THIS AMENDMENT… (see the amendment HERE – pertinent language starts at section 49, a little more than half way down)

The folks over at Granite Grok obtained an email yesterday sent from the NH Democratic Party’s legal counsel, Kathy Sullivan, to about 25 various organizations, outlining her revisions to the amendment to address some of the concerns raised by those receiving the email (Cornerstone, by the way, was conspicuously left off the list, while groups such as NH Peace Action, the NEA, the AFL-CIO and others were on it). Among one of her suggestions is raising the disclosure amount to an aggregate contribution of $10,000 – yup, still unconstitutional. Remember: Kathy Sullivan also just recently filed a complaint with the Attorney General’s Office against NOM’s tv ads in an effort to get them pulled.

WE NEED TO ACT IMMEDIATELY!!

This amendment has already passed the Senate (14-10) and is currently in a conference committee of House and Senate members. The committee will meet TODAY at 9am (LOB, Rm. 302) – Cornerstone will be there to watch as the committee works on this.

We need to flood the Governor’s Office, the Speaker’s Office and the Senate President’s Office with phone calls, calling on them to put an end to this unconstitutional power grab at once! Please be respectful, but let them know in no uncertain terms should free political speech be stifled in New Hampshire!!

Governor Lynch: 271-2121
Speaker’s Office: 271-3661
Senate President’s Office: 271-2111

The 2010 elections will be a turning point in the history of the United States. We are a country with a staggering debt. According to “The National Debt Clock” the outstanding public debt as of December 5, 2009 at 1:45 PM Greenwich Meridian Time was TWELVE TRILLION, NINETY THREE BILLION, SEVEN HUNDRED SIXTY TWO MILLION, SEVEN HUNDRED NINETY SIX THOUSAND, and TWO HUNDRED SEVENTY DOLLARS AND NINE CENTS! The estimated population of the United States is 307,411,454. Based on this number the share of this debt for every man, woman and child in the country is $39,340.64. The national debt has continued to increase an average of $3.86 billion per day since September 28, 2007. If you find this hard to believe, I encourage you to go to your computer and “Google” the “Big Red Calculator – Debt Clock” to see how rapidly our debt is increasing. It will also give you an idea of exactly what one trillion is.

Clearly Washington is out of control. Despite our national debt being what it is, they are considering national health care reform, a cap and trade bill and perhaps another stimulus along with an immigration reform bill. They claim that health care reform will be deficit neutral, cap and trade will create “new, green jobs” and stimulus will stimulate the economy and put people back to work. Only God and a collection of bureaucrats and politicians know what will be in the immigration reform bill. History tells us that anytime Congress passes legislation of this nature, the only thing that grows is the Government by way of more new bureaucracy which does nothing but add to our debt. The health care legislation currently consists of two bills each containing more than two thousand pages of new rules and regulations. If I remember correctly the stimulus bill was fourteen hundred pages and I don’t know how many pages the cap and trade bill is. I’m afraid to read it!. Compare this with a publication “The Colonial Williamsburg Foundation” circulates containing “The Declaration of Independence” and “The Constitution of the United States”. This publication measures six and a half inches by three and a half inches and contains 47 pages of which the Declaration takes up six pages and the Constitution with its amendments 34 pages!

My question is if Thomas Jefferson could clearly state our reasons for separation from Great Britain and our founding fathers could succinctly outline the rights of the American people with such brevity, why does it take Congress to “improve on our rights” with thousands of pages of legislation?

Clearly what we need in Congress is more fiscal conservatism. Most of us are fiscally conservative when it comes to running our households simply because we have limitations on what we can spend. We can’t print more money and/or borrow indiscriminately to finance our lifestyles like the Government is presently doing. This indicates to me that something is clearly wrong in Washington and things need to be changed.

Leading up to the 2010 elections the Hooksett Republican Town Committee has been asking the Republican candidates for the Senate and House of Representatives for the first district to appear at our monthly meetings to present their case and respond to questions put to them by the electorate. So far we have had Jim Bender, a candidate for the Senate and Bob Bestani a candidate for the House appear. This month we are featuring Ovid Lamontagne a candidate for the Senate and in future months we have Kelly Ayotte and Frank Guinta scheduled. We hope to schedule all of the other candidates for the House and Senate races during 2010 and also the Candidates for Governor, the State Senate and House. In January, we have invited Bob Bestani to return and give a non partisan lecture on economics. Mr. Bestani, a visiting scholar at Stanford University has had extensive experience in the middle and Far East and is an expert on the world energy situation.

Whether you know it or not, we, the American electorate, will be voting with our pocket books next year. 2010 will be a contest between the status quo and fiscal sanity. All of the candidates we are presenting are fiscally conservative. Mr. Lamontagne, Mr. Guinta and Ms. Ayotte are politically well known in the state but the majority of candidates come from the private sector, has run businesses and knows what it means to meet payrolls and be fiscally responsible.

We invite all registered Republicans and fiscally conservative Independents to attend our meetings at the Hooksett Town Library on the third Tuesday of each month between the hours of 6 and 8 PM. This will provide you with an opportunity to hear what the candidates have to say and in turn you will have the chance to ask “hard ball” questions on issues that are of concern to you.

It’s your money. Is it worth it to you to spend two hours a month to hear what these candidates can do for you? Just remember that change doesn’t come from Washington or Concord, it comes from towns like Hooksett.

Should you have any questions, please contact me at bbtrgt@comcast.net or call me at 669-9818.

The “Congressional House Call Day” is Thursday, November 5th at 12 noon. Thousands of taxpayers from across the country will be visiting their Congressman’s local office to tell them to “keep their hands off our health care.” With the final House of Representatives vote scheduled for Friday, Speaker Pelosi, President Obama, and their left wing allies are twisting arms like you would not believe.

That’s why it is so crucial that you and I visit our congressional offices Thursday at 12 Noon.
If you need details on where your congressional office is go to www.americansforprosperity.org and simply punch in your zip code. You can also print off a Health Care petition to take with you.

Three final things:

1. Take your digital camera or recorder with you and snap photos of your “Congressional House Call” and post them to my Facebook page or email them to TimPhillips@afp-mail.com. We will have pictures from across the nation of YOU up by Thursday afternoon!

2. It’s not too late to tell your friends and family. Forward this info by clicking here.

3. If something happens and you cannot attend at the last moment, please call or email your congressional office beginning at 12 Noon your time.

If you are able to come to Washington, DC, we encourage you to attend Congresswoman Michele Bachmann’s National Congressional House Call on the West Front Steps of the U.S. Capitol (House Side) from 12:00-1:00pm. Click here to watch Congresswoman Bachmann’s invitation to the Congressional House Call.

The final battle in the House is this Friday and Saturday. It’s crunch time and if you are going to make your voice heard, this “Congressional House Call” is it. Make sure to download the Patients First Reform Prescription and bring it along with you on your “House Call” and remember to take pictures of your visits, write down your stories, and send them to me at TimPhillips@afp-mail.com. Or you can post your pictures and comments on my Facebook page by clicking here.

We need as many people as possible for this effort, so if you haven’t already done so, click here to forward this information to at least 5 of your family and friends. On November 5th, we will stand up and say to elected officials, “Hands off My Health Care!” Please take action!

Our son is in D.C. today, making calls in person to members of Congress. There was a chartered bus of conservatives from the area that left Rhode Island last night at midnight for this “mission.” So proud of him, and I know Charlie would be also.

Anything you can do this noon to tell the Congress what you think of socialized medicine would be helpful. After all, the Congress has exempted themselves from the “health” plan they want to push onto us.
